Position Overview:
The Retail Studio Director at Dwell with Dignity (DwD) plays a pivotal role in creating exceptional and impactful shopping experiences that raise critical funds to support our mission. This multifaceted role blends retail strategy, design partnerships, merchandising, and inventory management with mission-driven storytelling. The Director manages shopper, vendor, and designer relationships, acquires and merchandises donated goods, coordinates pop-up experiences, and explores new sales channels—including e-commerce. The Director is responsible for all sales and meeting goals.
This position requires strong leadership, creativity, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage both day-to-day operations and big-picture initiatives aligned with DwD’s vision of transforming lives through design.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Mission Alignment & Organizational Leadership
• Serve as a passionate ambassador for Dwell with Dignity’s mission, values, and brand.
• Foster a positive, collaborative environment with staff, volunteers, designers, and shoppers.
• Ensure all Studio activities reflect and support DwD’s purpose of using design to inspire and uplift lives.
2. Studio & Sales Management
• Develop and execute retail strategies to maximize revenue and meet sales goals.
• Monitor and analyze store performance, adjusting tactics as needed for growth.
• Curate and merchandise pop-ups to create an inspiring and cohesive in-store experience.
• Maintain operational excellence across all sales platforms.
3. Inventory & Merchandising
• Acquire and coordinate the intake of donated goods from showrooms, designers, and vendors.
• Utilize Shopify to track, price, and tag inventory efficiently.
• Ensure merchandise is accurately labeled, attractively displayed, and strategically arranged and priced to drive purchases.
• Remerchandise the store daily when open and as donated items are delivered. Direct new items to be placed on the floor.
4. Designer Relations & Pop-Up Execution
• Collaborate with the Executive Director to recruit and onboard interior designers for seasonal pop-up events.
• Provide clear guidelines, schedules, and resources to participating designers.
• Send regular designer update emails and offer on-site support during install and event weeks.
5. Online Sales & E-Commerce Growth
• Explore and implement online sales channels to extend the reach of Thrift Studio.
• Manage digital storefronts (e.g., Shopify), product listings, and online inventory.
• Coordinate fulfillment and customer service for online buyers.
6. Vendor, Shopper & Partner Engagement
• Build and nurture relationships with donors, vendors, and local designers to secure high-quality inventory.
• Cultivate a warm and welcoming retail environment that encourages repeat shopping and community engagement.
• Represent DwD with professionalism and enthusiasm at all public-facing events.
7. Volunteer Leadership
• Recruit, train, and lead a team of volunteers to support year-round and pop-up operations. Keep a running list of volunteer jobs.
• Ensure volunteers are supported, respected, and meaningfully engaged.
• Provide direction and oversight aligned with DwD’s culture and mission.
Qualifications:
• Deep passion for the mission of Dwell with Dignity and social impact through design.
• Proven experience in boutique or high-end retail, showroom, or event management.
• Familiarity with Shopify or similar inventory and point-of-sale systems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Creative eye for merchandising and customer experience.
• Experience working with interior designers, home furnishings, or luxury goods preferred.
• Comfortable leading teams, managing timelines, and working collaboratively.
• Resourceful, flexible, and solutions-oriented.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, and perform other light physical demands
• Comfort working on a ladder or using tools like drills or hammers.

The Studio is a pop-up shop created to provide financial viability for Dwell with Dignity by selling donated furniture, housewares, accessories, and high-end designer finds at discounted prices. 100% of proceeds benefit the mission. The Studio accounts for over half of DwD’s annual operating revenue and is a key contributor to our impact.
Formerly Thrift Studio, DwD is rebranding this, along with our other signature sales events to better represent the elevated experience and merchandise we have grown to be known for.
