This is a project we completed for mom and her 12-year-old daughter nominated by Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support. After fleeing a difficult situation that left her and her young daughter homeless, mom demonstrated a commitment to positive change by seeking counseling and necessary support. Now, mom has a stable job, working as a nanny and housekeeper, and lives in a safe neighborhood close to her daughter’s school. Thanks to DwD, Mom and daughter now a beautiful and functional HOME

This young mother and her 1-year-old baby girl were nominated to us by Promise House, after mom completed the accountability based program that helped this struggling family get out of homelessness and on track to self-sufficiency. Mom works part time and is studying fashion design, with hopes to have a bright and successful career in the fashion industry. What a great example mom is setting for her young daughter! We met this sweet family when they were nominated to us by The Family Place. Mom and her five children, ranging from 14 to 4 years old, have been through a lot over the years, including homelessness, severe abuse and trauma, but mom’s courage and tenacity has got this family back on their feet and into a home of their very own. Tiffany Johnson is a hero to her two kiddos. This sweet mother has been through so much, and after working hard to complete the program at Shared Housing Center, she is now has a stable job to support her family. This project was extra special since we were to provide a safe place for her and her family to not only a fresh start, but also celebrate the holidays together thanks to our family home sponsor Holiday Warehouse! 

Sade and her 6 year old daughter lived in this apartment where they shared a mattress and a sofa. Having lost so much in her life before she went through the program at Initiative for Affordable Housing, she was thrilled to be able to give some of her things away to help others. This home was sponsored by ADAC and the interior design was done by Clay Snider and Traci Rhoads. Sade and her daughter enjoyed a very, merry Christmas, complete with a tree and gifts, thanks to one of our generous donors.

Traverion is the mom to a 10 year old son and a 6 year old daughter. She had lost her job in retail due to the recession and cutbacks. The family was nominated to DwD due to the success that Traverion had while going through the program at Buckhead Christian Ministry and the fact that she had found a new retail position. AmericasMart sponsored this apartment and Steve McKenzie and Egypt Sherrod designed the beautiful interiors. The children are now thriving and Traverion has been promoted to Store Manager after the install.

This mom has a special needs baby boy with medical issues requiring monthly treatments at a hospital. In addition, she has a 5 year old little girl who loves reading and dancing and a 2 year old son who loves any game with a ball. Her mom and dad live close by to offer support, and mom is working a full time receptionist job to support her family.

Natasha and her 3 sons moved into their apartment after completing the program at Initiative for Affordable Housing. Our amazing group of Atlanta volunteers created this beautiful home. A soothing environment was attained in the master bedroom while a bright and cheerful room was ready to greet the 3 active boys. The boys’ favorite thing? Bingo (the turtle) now had a place to live that was much larger than the plastic container he had been living in. The boys wondered aloud how large he would get now that he has room to grow. We are looking forward to watching the whole family thrive and grow!

After several major setbacks, Denise and Marques were finally back on the road to self-sufficiency with the help of Buckhead Christian Ministry. The parents of 2 sons and a daughter, they needed help to make their 2 bedroom apartment comfortable for everyone. Nandina Home sponsored this home and made it beautiful and functional, all at the same time. The oldest son walked back into the apartment at the reveal and said “I never thought I’d get to live someplace this beautiful”.

This home interior was created for a mom and her two boys and baby girl. After the many trials and tribulations this family has endured, they were thrilled to enjoy a fresh start in this home!
