Twice a year at Dwell with Dignity, we step outside our typical project of creating a home for a family and support a fellow charity by bringing good design to their offices or on-campus facilities in order to serve and inspire more people in our local community. DwD community projects have opened the doors for us to involve other businesses by partnering with them on contract work that goes beyond our interior design skill, and together, we have made a big impact on the lives of the people who live or work in the spaces of the local charities we have renovated!
For our first community project in 2015, we completed what we hope to be only Phase I of Dwell with Dignity’s makeover at Wesley Inn. The Wesley Inn program at Promise House is a group residence for up to 12 formerly homeless, pregnant and parenting teen mothers and their children. The program provides those in need with up to 24 months of housing along with pre and postnatal care, parenting classes, life skills training, daycare services, weekly counseling and much more. The goal at Wesley Inn is to encourage self-sufficiency, personal growth, and healthy parenting skills for the young mothers who call Wesley Inn home. We know from experience that if we can change a person’s surroundings, we can change their outlook on life, so the new space at Wesley Inn will serve as a sanctuary to those who reside there.
In this renovation, we provided much-needed updates to the living and dining space, and created an inspiring environment that will encourage these young mothers on their toughest days!
All new furnishings, including two pieces in the living room from I.O. Metro, custom draperies, handmade artwork created by our DwD volunteers, a custom mural from Dawn Cleaves of Artisan Finishes, a new stone buffet top (custom made by Stonecraft Dallas,) and accessories created a beautiful and cohesive design.
In 2016, we want to further our impact at Promise House by bringing good design upstairs to the bedrooms of the young mothers and children at Wesley Inn. Wesley Inn Phase II would provide much needed updates to the 4 bedrooms. If you are interested in helping us make Phase II possible, please reach out to us.
