Dwell with Dignity – Atlanta Joins the One Room Challenge™

Linda Weinstein, founder of the One Room Challenge™ and blogger at Calling It Home, met Dwell with Dignity founder Lisa Robison and co-founder Kim Turner at the recent Design Bloggers Conference in California. Linda was inspired by the mission of DwD and wanted to shine a spotlight on the impact that design has on families escaping the cycle of homelessness and poverty.

Twice a year, the One Room Challenge meticulously chooses twenty design bloggers to transform a space over the course of 6 weeks. This widely anticipated online series follows the design adventures of each space from mood board to reveal through weekly blog posts that go live every Wednesday.

Dwell with Dignity is the very first non-profit organization to be involved in the One Room Challenge. We are thrilled to be able to bring awareness to our mission and work through this platform that continually features extraordinary designers and eye-catching transformations.

The design work for our upcoming home installation is being conceptualized, managed and installed by Lathem Gordon and Cate Dunning, principals of Atlanta-based interior design firm, GordonDunning. This enthusiastic and talented design-duo is no stranger to the work of Dwell with Dignity – Atlanta. In fact, they have been instrumental in the formation of our chapter by designing and volunteering for multiple Atlanta home installations since 2014.

Over the course of the next 6 weeks our blog series, right here at dwellwithdignity.org/blog, will give you an inside look at the inspirations, plans and progress of the home design for our next family. You will also get to know our designers, sponsors, donors, volunteers and most importantly our partner agency and chosen family.

You’re invited to follow along and watch us transform lives through design! See you back on April 5 when we reveal our design boards and introduce our family.

Never miss a blog post or an opportunity to get involved!

Dwell with Dignity designs and installs complete home interiors for families who desperately need an environment that will support health and wellness. Our mission is to help families escape poverty and homelessness through design; one household at a time. We empower families to lead their best lives and to thrive in a safe, functional, and beautiful environment.

Dwell with Dignity works with agencies that have programs in place to take families from homelessness & poverty to self-sufficiency.  Often times, after a family has received all of the counseling, training, and support from our partner agencies, they find themselves struggling to provide a home in which they can thrive. Dwell with Dignity addresses this critical economic need through our mission.

We create inspiring home interiors with the labor of dedicated volunteers and with the generosity of our donors. Dwell with Dignity works with interior designers and members of the trade to furnish the families’ homes including all furniture, art, bedding, kitchen supplies, food in the pantry and their first night’s meal. Our goals are to bring good design to those less fortunate, inspiring them to maintain a standard of living they can be proud of and thrive in.

We feel that if we can change a person’s environment, we can change a person’s outlook on life. When we provide our families a place to be proud of and thrive in, we have set the stage for breaking the cycle of poverty and setting up future generations for success.
